TEITL A. CÂN I JOE HILL A. GWELD Y MIWSIG
CAT NO ANKST 163
REL/ALLAN 28.10.2022
What began as a simple desire to hear his recorded singing voice again after the repeated lockdowns and time away from the stage led Welsh music legend Geraint Jarman to book a recording session at Cardiff’s Ty Drwg studios. A whim that revealed a deeper artistic need within Geraint to get back to recording his songs again. Geraint’s love of music shines through on the stand alone single he produced in the session. Both tracks have a melancholy, spiritual feel and an almost narcotic pull on the listener.
CÂN I JOE HILL(Song for Joe Hill) is an explicit tribute to Joe Hill, singer with Jamaican legends Culture (Two Sevens Clash), who is also featured on the sleeve with Geraint – ‘Finna’n galaru, dal yn ei garu’ ( ‘still mourning, still love him’ ) The song recounts the epiphany experienced by Geraint when he witnessed Joe, up close, fronting Culture on stage at the Top Rank in Cardiff in the late 1970s. The single captures a feeling, a memory and pays tribute to an artistic and spiritual inspiration that has never ever left Geraint or the music he’s produced ever since that fateful night.
GWELD Y MIWSIG (See the Music) is a lovely, melodious song triggered by the memory of one of Geraint’s young daughters insisting that she be now shown the music that she had already listened to. Where do we see music? It is a good question – isn’t it? Within, without or just in the other room perhaps. Ankst Musik are proud to offer this brand new Geraint Jarman single to the world.
Mae bodolaeth y traciau yma yn ganlyniad i awydd syml gan y cerddor Geraint Jarman i glywed ei lais canu ar dâp ar ôl y cyfnod cloi ac amser i ffwrdd o’r llwyfan. Mae’n mynd ati i drefnu diwrnod yn stiwdio Tŷ Drwg, Caerdydd ychydig o wythnosau yn ôl ac yn gadael fin nos gyda hwn - sengl newydd.
Awydd mympwyol a ddatgelodd angen ysbrydol ac artistig dyfnach oddi fewn Geraint i ail-gysylltu â cherddoriaeth eto a ail gydio yn y busnas o recordio ei ganeuon. Mae cariad Geraint at gerddoriaeth yn disgleirio yma. Mae naws melancholic, narcotic, ysbrydol i'r ddau drac sy’n tynnu y gwrandäwr yn agos i lais a geiriau Geraint.
Mae CÂN I JOE HILL yn deyrnged amlwg i Joe Hill, canwr gyda'r grŵp chwedlonol Culture, sydd hefyd i'w weld ar glawr y sengl gyda Geraint – 'Finna'n galaru, dal yn ei garu' . Mae'r gân yn adrodd hanes y noson bythgofiadwy pan fu Geraint yn dyst i berfformiad Joe gyda Culture ar lwyfan y Top Rank yng Nghaerdydd ar ddiwedd y 1970au. Profiad, teimlad ac ysbrydoliaeth artistig ac personol sydd erioed wedi gadael Geraint na’r gerddoriaeth mae wedi’i gynhyrchu ers y noson dyngedfennol honno.
Cân hyfryd, swynol yw GWELD Y MIWSIG a gafodd ei hysgogi a’i hysbrydoli gan atgof am un o ferched ifanc Geraint yn mynnu fod Ger yn dangos y gerddoriaeth iddi nawr ei bod wedi ei chlywed yn barod. Ble rydyn ni'n gweld cerddoriaeth? Mae’n gwestiwn da – onid yw? Oddi fewn, neu oddi allan , neu dim ond yn yr ystafell draw efallai. Mae Ankst Musik yn falch iawn medru cynnig sengl newydd sbon gan Geraint Jarman i’r byd.

Bought solely for the beats of the two haunting Alys Williams tracks, though I respect the artist's vision by getting the entire album rather than individual tracks. I'm glad I did so, because while I still don't think that the collection hangs together that well, the other tracks are growing on me. Rich Hims

I’ve been a massive Super Furry Animals fans since their first album and I’ve seen them many times in the UK and North America. Das Koolies are awesome. I heard this for the first time today and it’s completely different to the Furries. A little like Black Devil Disco Club with little hints of the furries now and again. Brilliant. Peter Easton
